We continue our journey following Celaena Sardothien in her newly
won role as "The King's Champion". Being the Champion to a sadistic machiavellian megalomaniac is tough work at the best of times. It becomes an even harder row to hoe when you're intending to undermine his authority and perhaps usurp him.
Through this book we see further character development, especially where Caelena, Chaol (the Captain of the Guard) and Dorian (the Crown Prince) are concerned. We also see some large plot arcs aggressively pursued.
Sara J. Maas mixes things up a bit - particularly near the end of the book. It seems like we're about to embark on an epic but formulaic resolution to the story in an upcoming book but then are taken stage left to where I'm hoping further character development can and will occur.
The writing in this book matures when compared to the preceding book. I'm sure it will continue to get better as we move along.
I will to continue to read this series.
