Mary Shelly's Frankenstein is a surprisingly good read. Growing up I

thought I knew enough about the Frankenstein story to know that I had no interest in reading it. It was only after I downloaded and read it on my iPhone to test out the kindle app that I realized how wrong I was. Popular culture tells up that Frankenstein's monster is some sort of clumsy, mindless, violent creature that generally runs amok for no clear reason.
This is completely untrue. Frankenstein's monster is quite spry for a dead man; and really better resembles a cross between Edward Scissor Hands and Rambo (from the book First Blood - not the Sly Stalone creation). Throw in a poet's heart and intellect and you have our monster.
Does he run amok - is he violent? Yes, but for good reason. By the end of the book you'll find yourself wondering who the real monster is.
Oh, and how did the kindle app test go? It was ok, but really I don't find the iPhone a great device for leisurely reading. I eventually ended up buying a kindle and I love it. Sure paper is fantastic and sexy and for reference materials I generally prefer it but for stories kindle is lightweight, hyper usable and allows me to keep a library in my courier bag. This is great both for travel and for living in a small space - which I do.
